Internship: AJ’s The Stream

Al Jazeera English’s The Stream is looking for a smart, internationally-minded budding journalist to be an intern for its live daily current affairs discussion show.

The intern is responsible for providing clear, concise research to show producers and hosts Femi Oke and Malika Bilal, to help them navigate complex subjects in an informed, thoughtful way.

They should be able to read in and synthesize international news topics quickly, fact-check scripts and provide show and guest suggestions. Social media agility is key. Foreign languages a plus.

The internship is three months long, 35 hours/week, in Washington, DC. Currently enrolled undergraduates can only receive course credit. Currently enrolled masters students can receive course credit or minimum wage. Recent graduates can receive minimum wage.

Candidates should send a CV and cover letter (demonstrating an awareness of what our show is about!) to me – woodsomek@aljazeera.net – and Maya Garg – gargm@aljazeera.net

Fellowship: American Press Institute

The American Press Institute offers a paid summer fellowship for college students or recent graduates who have a strong desire to advance innovation in news organizations.

Unlike a summer internship, a core component of the program is a self-proposed fellowship project. We’re looking a student or recent grad who can envision building something from start to finish — such as a tool, resource, or guide — that would help news organizations make decisions in critical areas of their work.

Internship: 5280 in Denver

Digital-Editorial Internship Program

5280 offers an editorial internship program focused on digital and multimedia storytelling. Interns work closely with the editorial staff on projects, which may include (but are not limited to) video production, writing and reporting stories, research, social media, and website maintenance.

As part of the program, interns will take part in training sessions and mentorship. Training sessions are run by editors and provide an overview of how the magazine works, from pitching to editing to art/design. Interns are also paired with an editor to gain firsthand knowledge about a career in journalism.

REQUIREMENTS:
Although a magazine journalism, or English degree, (or working toward a degree) is preferred, it’s not required. Published clips or writing samples are required. Applicants with a background in photography, video (5280 uses Final Cut Pro), HTML coding, or social media are encouraged to apply. A commitment of 20 hours a week is required. The internship is paid.

TO APPLY: Please email a cover letter, resumé, and three to five published clips (including video or a website, if applicable) to digital@5280.com with “digital internship” in the subject line.

Always accepting applications.

Internship opp: Italy for a month

If you’re at all interested in refugees, this sounds great.

Cover the big global stories of our time, from the struggles of Syrian and African refugees surging through Europe to the post-Brexit controversies that threaten the very existence of the EU. Or delve into the cultural side of this sophisticated university city, famous for its food, street art and nightlife. No matter what your interest, you’ll be mentored by award-winning international journalists, multimedia storytellers and professors, who will help you develop the stories you care about.

You’ll learn to report, write and shoot multimedia stories as foreign correspondents do, while working with award-winning faculty to create a Web documentary about Bologna.

We also offer an internship program, which assigns students to write and shoot for professional English-language publications, in Europe and the United States. Internships are open to graduates of university journalism programs, to graduate students studying journalism, and to early-career professionals who want to sharpen their international reporting skills.
